She/They

About

In our sessions, I aim to provide you with a supportive environment that assists you to build your awareness and skills, in order to reach your goals and improve your life. I am empathic and curious and my aim is to get to know you, so that you are comfortable enough to discuss with me whatever you are needing help with. I am comfortable holding space for any of your emotions, even the ones that you might not like to feel. I aim to provide you with the experience of having a safe place to discuss the things you may not feel comfortable talking about with others. A space where you can build your awareness along with useful skills and tools to help you manage or cope with things better.

I like to draw on a range of therapeutic techniques and approaches to ensure our work together resonates with you, as I believe that each person is unique. During our time together, my aim is to equip you with the awareness and tools you need so that you can thrive.

I became a Psychologist because I am innately curious about what makes people tick. My passion for understanding people drives me and allows me to provide a service that is specific to those I am working with.

I am a believer in “this too shall pass” and know both the good and bad times don’t last forever. Often when people are feeling something tough or uncomfortable, it can feel like it always has been, or always will be that way… which is a trick that our brains can play. On the flip side, if you find it hard to be in the moment for the fun, exciting or happy times, they too can pass you by. By allowing ourselves to understand what might be stopping us from letting go of the uncomfortable, or relishing in the great times, you can find more enjoyment in your life.

Many people have heard, or even said the saying “I am my own worst enemy”. You might find certain thoughts, behaviours or patterns in your relationships keep playing out and you find yourself feeling like you are going in circles or coming back to that same old issue or feeling. Knowing what is keeping the pattern going will allow you to be able to break it, and can allow you to stop feeling like you are getting in your own way in your day to day life.

Approach

In our first session, I will ask you about what brings you to counselling and I am keen to hear your story. Throughout our sessions I welcome your feedback. I think having a strong therapeutic rapport is most important, and that you feel you can be both safe and vulnerable with me.

I will at times check in with you in the here-and-now, as I think our relationship, and what you are experiencing in the moment is of great importance. Often people find themselves playing out themes, patterns or dynamics with others in different areas of their lives, including in therapy. It can be useful to use these times to bring awareness into areas that you may have previously overlooked, and/or to allow you to try out a different way of being.

My aim is to help you develop a variety of strategies, and to help you build your knowledge and confidence.

Personal

Two of my values are integrity and hope, both of which assist me in sustaining my passion for Psychology, working with a range of people, and ensure I provide an ethical and professional service. On an ongoing basis I continue to engage in my own personal and professional development to ensure that I am not just ‘talking the talk’ but am also actively ‘walking the walk’. I think being aware of ourselves is a key part of having choice about how we engage with ourselves and others, and I encourage this in our sessions, as well as practicing it myself.

When I am not at work, I can be found enjoying tasty food with friends or family, walking or hiking in some of the stunning Perth areas, riding my bicycle or chilling in the garden. I love an array of music, TV shows & movies, and pretty much any kind of animal. I value equality for all beings and am passionate about the future of our planet.
